Photo shots of our locations

We used these positions and camera angles to add drama and anxiety to our film. By running across the bridge and over the road it makes the audience feel worried for both characters as they can easily be hit by a moving vechicle. Our film is an action film and it links in to James Bond as they both have high drama at the start of films and catch the audiences attention with a wide range of camera angles rangin from high angle to over the shoulder shots.

Audience Research and Profiling

Target Audience:
The target audience for our film is for 15 year ols and upwards towards the 60s. This is because there are a few scenes of violence and swearing can be a posibility and so is not suitable for a younger audience like children.
It is mainly a male audience that will be interested in watching our film as there is fighting scenes and the male characters in the film are trying to be brave throughout which comforms the typical male stereotypes.
It is not aimed at females as there is no romance in the film and it isnt a fantasy as its more of an action/sci-fi.
Other films:
The films that are similar to our film are James Bond, especially Skyfall as there is a chase scene and many other action/sci-fi films.

Brainstorming ideas.

Initial ideas of the content in our opening 2 minutes.

Here are our first inital ideas of the content of our first two minutes. This isnt really saying anything about the background information about what is in the brief case, it will be more what the audeince will be seeing.

Certificate research

Certificate Research

There are 6 main certificates for films according to the British certificates since 2009, they allow and forbid certain people to watch films due to age restrictions.
The certificates are the following:

This certificate's Name is Universal. This means that the film is suitable for all ages and that the younger generation does not need to be accompanied by an adult. However before 2009 there used to be a certificate which was Uc. This was suitable for all, but especially suitable for young children to watch on their own. But because the certificate U pretty much covered this they scrapped this from 2009 onward.

The name of this certificate is Parental Guidance. This is for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. So this leaves the parents to decide whether they accompany their child or not.

The name of this certificate is 12 Accompanied/ Advisory. This means that it is suitable for those aged 12 and older (cinema only) so this is only used in the cinema not on films or TV programmes that you watch/buy;under 12s admitted, but only if accompanied by an adult

The name of this certificate is just 12. This is suitable for those aged 12 and older (non cinema only) So this is not used in the cinema only when buying films etc.

The name of this certificate is just 15. This is suitable for those aged 15 and older and the person does not need to be accompanied by an adult. Sometimes if this were to be used in a cinema or when buying/renting a film then they may get asked for id.

The name of this certificate is just 18.It is listed on films and TV programs. and is suitable for those who are 18 an older. This probably because the scenes that are within the film may be unsuitable/violent for those who are at a younger age.

Questionnaire Q6

For this last question that we asked the audience how they would prefer the film to end. The options being A twist, Hero beats villain, or a cliff hanger. A twist and the Hero beats the villain were both at 20% and then the cliff hanger was 60%, this gave us the impression that the audience wanted something that would leave them trying to figure out what was about to happen. We are going to implement this into our film by having a stand off at the end with the villain and hero both holding guns at one another, and the screen will go black and then we will hear a gun shot, this will be a cliff hanger because it will make people think who just got shot if anyone did get shot.

Questionnaire Q5

For this question we asked people wether they liked the action genre to be based on A normal citizen, Criminals, Agents or other. For this 10% chose other 20% chose a normal citizen 30% chose Criminals and the other 40% chose agents. I think they chose Agents and criminals because alot of action films are based on either Criminals or Agents which are usually extremely successful films, for example, James Bond.

Questionnaire Q4

Here we just had a basic Yes/No question asking wether they liked to have an action based film or not. The majority of the vote casted as Yes and a small minority said no. We have again taken this too account but we had already decided that our opening of our film will be action packed.

Questionnaire Q3

For this question we asked what type of style of fighting do you prefer. The most common answers were james bond and Jason bourne instead of sherlock Holmes and Jackie Chan. This gave us the idea that if we followed our film with James Bond then it should be favoured with the audience.

Questionnaire Q2

For this question there was only a choice of two answers; Urban and Rural. 20% said rural and 80% said Urban. We have also taken this into account and we are going to base the chase scene in a Urban area, but we are then going to perhaps the end of the scene in a field which will look fairly rural.

Questionnaire Q1

We decided to take the chase scene results into account and we are going to use it within our first opening two minutes.

Original Script for our Film

The scrpit for our film is as follows:

We first see the hero following the villian down an alleyway. The villian keeps on turning around seeing if the hero is following him and he is. the villian then runs off and we see the flashback of what happened 2 minutes before:

Agent: Alright geezer, what you got in dat briefcase
Villian: Never you mind, cant stop ive got somewhere to be.

Agent puts his arm across to stop villian walking further.

Agent: I dont think so mateee, now hand over the briefcase.
Villian: Dont test my patience otherwise it could look nasty.

Agent: we can do this the easy way or the hard way, your choice i would rather do it the easy way,   wouldnt you.

Villian: seriously im late now get out of way you prick

Agent swips his foot at the villian to put him on the deck and starts to beat him up. We then see a close up shot of the villian take out his gun and shoot the agent in the chest. The hero over sees this and calls out.

There is no dialogue for the next 45 seconds. The hero cathces up and holds a gun to the villian.

Hero: Oi stop, I know what you have done and I know whats in your briefcase, now turn around and hand it over.

Villain: No chance

Villian takes out his gun and holds it up aswell.

Hero: You dont need to this now come on drop the weapon.

Villain: No chance

The audience then see a close up of both people slowly pulling the trigger. The screen then goes black and we hear the sound of a gun in the background causing a cliffhanger.

Codes and Conventions for Action

Action:

The Codes and Conventions for Action are to have a discrete location like Indiana Jones. This is because it exites the audience as they could be on a long adventure coming across many tasks to do with killing. We can tell this as there are close up shots Of Indianas whip. There is normally a mysterious background noise in action films to keep the tension within the scrnr. As the scene moves on the music willnormally intensify to show that something dangerous might happen and so it keeps the audience glued to the screen.
In action films we normally see low angle shots on the villian at the start of the film to show that he is trying to be the leader of everyone and that he is in control. As the we move through the film, the camera angles will change and there will be low angle on the hero as he mormally saves the day and the villain loses.
The type of clothes that a villain would wear is smart as he wants to show that he is professiomnal in his job and that no one can knock him down. On the other hand the hero will have poorer conditioned clothes as he is trying so hard to get his goal that he cant keep on changing his clothes. We see this in Indiana Jones as he is always wearing an old ripped t-shirt until in the last few scenes where he had succeed, then he will change in to smarter clothes to show that he is now taken ober that control.

Green Street Hooligans - First Fight vs Tottenham

In the opening 2 minutes of green street we see many fighting scenes taking place all at once. This gives the audience the idea that this film is all about football violence (hooligans).
There are low angle shots on the main character to show that he is a dominent figue compared to the rest of them around him.
This gives the audience an idea that no one should mess with him and that he is the leader of the group.
There are also long shots on the group of hooligans to show their dominent force and power against the opponents.
There are no background sounds in the film as there is a lot of dialogue and editing.
When the fight happens you can hear many punches and sound of stuff breaking to show the audience how violent the fight is.
There is a lot of swearing through out the opening scene to show how violent the film is and that the characters are trying to represent themselves as powerful, mean hooligans towards others.
The target audience is definetely males as all men think that they are stronger and more powerful than others. It is an 18+ film because of the violent scenes and swearing.

Codes and Conventions of Horror

Horror:

The codes and conventitions of horror are that they contain scary scenes, murders and creepy background music.
By having these things involved within the film it makes the audience scared and the idea is to make them have their worst nightmare.
Throughtout the film there will be slow paced music to keep the tension within the audience as to what can happen next. As the characters become more scared the tempo of the background music will increase to giver the audience the idea that something bad is about to happen.
Also there are not fast paced shots which also increases tension.
Many close up shots are taken through out the film as it gives the audience a real idea of the characters facial expressions and what exactly they feel at that moment in time.
Sometimes longer shots can be used to show a location e.g. like a old church in the night time to keep the tension within the scenes.
Whenever the audience can see something that the characters cant like someone creeping up behind the main character, it build up the tension quickly and so the tempo and volume of the sound increases as well which brings dramatic irony.
The target audience for horror films are 16+ as it can be to frightening for a younger audience. The max age range is roughly up to 40 year old as it can be to frightening for the elderly aswell.
It is aimed at both boys and girl as normally they are both the main characters.

Analysis of opening titles

Analysis of James Bond- Skyfall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxNG-3W9i3k
The opening of James Bond is about 3:50mins. Within the titles we first get show the Producers who present the film. Then we get the main actor who in this case is Daniel Craig who acts as James Bond of course. We then get a title straight after his name saying 'as IAN FLEMINGS's JAMES BOND 007 in'. This the author who wrote the James Bond books. Then it Carry's on from in to the film title 'SKYFALL'. While all of these credits are going on there is a scenes of him which looks like he is drowning and getting pulled underneath the water. We then get a list of titles naming who is starring in the Film, The music is still going and we are still getting a series of underwater images, the next one is a target of James Bond and he has bullet holes in it and the bloody is all cloudy in the water. And the camera shot then goes into the hole and then goes into the next scene
with more titles, the images behind this is now of a woman underwater the camera shot of this is a vertical panning shot so that you see the whole of her body up and down. As she is rising we then get a shot of a gun being dropped in the water and disappearing in the sand on the sea bed, this then gets another name next to it.
We then get a whole new scene which looks like is has been animated but still underwater where knives are dropping and the camera is going forward into a graveyard straight into one grave at the end. This then disperses into what looks like blood vessels.
Now you are starting to build up a story on whats going on, so I think that that the woman shot James Bond and then he died and then he is then coming back to life or going into another world as it looks like he is meeting Somone at the end as there is someones eye.

Props for our Film

Props for The Exploit
Props

  • Guns (pistol)
  • (maybe knives)
The guns will painted black to make them look more realistic and will only given to our main characters in are opening, because we do not have enough gun props to allow all characters to have them, plus their is no need for them too have them.
  • Briefcase
Briefcase is the main attention and is the reason why the chase is happening however in the opening it will never be opened, this is to create suspence in the audience.

    • fake money for exchange - if needed.
We may use fake money, during are flashback during the meeting while making the exchange. Most likely monopoly money.
    • Earpiece.
We will use an earpiece to make our main character look more realistic at his role of being an agent. Also if we wish to add more dialogue we could make it so he communicating to someone.

    Football factory full film 2004

In the opening 2 minutes of football factory we see many images of fighting between sets of football fans. This gives the audience the idea that the film is about football but mainly about hooligans and them fighing between opposing fans.
We also see images of police getting involved and so this fighting must be quite serious which catches the audiences attention especially the males.
We hear a constant fast tampo music in the background to show that we they are fighting they have to be alert from danger around them.
We see this happening right at the end of the 2 minutes when we see one of the main characters being beaten up as he is laying on the floor with many cuts and brouses across his face. This had a high angle shot on him to show that he is not in control of the situation and that ghe is weaker compared to the others.  This gives me and the audience the idea that even though this is a sport and action film but now it might be mainly violence.
The target audience for this film is mainly males as the is many fighting scenes. This is a stereotype towards males as they all believe that they are strong and that no else is stronger than them.
It is not aimed at females because there is no romance and love through the film.
It is aimed at 18 and above.

Goal 2005 DVDRip XviD FULL MOVIE

In the opening 2 minutes of Goal 1 we see the main character ( Santiago) playing football in his town. the area is a bit like the favelas in Brazil and that the playing surface they were on was clay and dusty.
This gives the audience the idea that this film is all about football but mainly about a kid who has been brought up in a bad way.
As they try to immigrate to another country Santiago drops his football. You can see the emotions runnin g through his face to show that he really cares about it and that he doesnt want to leave it behind.
As he leaves his decision longer to try and get the ball the music intensifies and hid Dad shouts at him louder and louder. This is because the police are trying to find them and if they do then his family could be in prisoned for the rest of their lives.
In the next scene we see Santiago sitting on a sun bed in his pool. this shows that his family has been successful in moving to another country and so the audience feel relieved for him because of a bad younger childhood.
The target audience is mainly male as it is about foootball and that Santiago is a male.
It can also be aimed at a female audience becuase it does have bits of romance in it.

James Bond - Quantum of solace opening (HD!)

In the opening 2 minutes of Quantum of Solace we see a wide range of different camera angles.
We first see a car chase between the main character and the enemy.
As the main characters is driving a long the min road dodging many cars it has a low angle camera shot on him to show that he is out smarting his opponents at that he is the hero.
We see this when one of the chasers gets out smarted by James bond and ends up being hit by a lorry coming the other way.
As the chase scene starts the music is silenced and so all the audience can hear is the sound of the cars and gun shots.
The more and more that the hero keeps getting shot at and hit the audience become more involved as they desperately want the hero to see off his opponent.
The clothes that James wears are very smart to show that he is rich (this also shows by the car he is driving) and that he is proud of himself.
There is no dialogue within the 2 minutes so it shows that James is concentrating on trying to keep himself alive.
The target audience is both males and females as there is lots of action but also there are many scenes with romance.
It is aimed at 15 years olds and above because there is swearing involved.

Adywans - Star wars: Revisited - The Opening Scene.

In the opening 2 minutes of Star wars 4 we see instantly a small space ship under attack from a much larger space ship. As the bigger one passes through the shot we see a low angle shot to show the sheer size of this ship and that it is in control of the smaller one.
As it passes by you can hear the sound of its engines which are so loud that shows how dominent and powerful this ship is.
As the smaller ship is hit by the larger ship, sirens a set off around and there is an imediate emergency around the ship as they could die.
As the smaller ship is engolfed by the bigger one the music starts to slow down and become quiter to show how worried all the soldiers are on board. as the audience see that they are outnumbered they all side with the smaller ship as they feel sorry for them and that they dont want the enemies to succeed.
As the fighting starts the tempo of sound increases dramatically and there is lots of action taking place to keep the audience happy. At the end of the fighting scene we see one of the main characters enter (Darth Vader) and he is one of the enemies. As he enters the sound drops as this shows that he is dominent and that once again he has succeded.
The target audience of this film is for young teenagers and upwards. Mainly a male audience as it is action and adventure. It is also a female audience as there are a few romantic scenes through out the film.

    Costume research for our Film

    Costume Research
There will be two types of costumes which the actors will be wearing during the first opening two minutes of the film.
The first type will be suits. This will be for the Villain and the Hero who are the two main characters in the opening two minutes. The hero who is a undercover agent who is looking through the villains eyes will be wearing a light suite to show that he is the good guy out of the two people who will be in the scene. This is because he is going under cover and will be doing business with a Man who is quite powerful and you would want to look quite respectable when dealing with someone like him. The villain will be wearing dark colors probably a black suit because that is what you usually get villains wearing in action movies.
The Suit will look quite similar to this:
Its a grey suit and will be perfect for the agent to wear as its smart and its something that we already have to hand so we won't have to buy it from online or anything.

The Villain will be wearing a suit that will probably be completely black. This'll show that he is the bad person in the first two minutes being that he is in all black like most villains are. For example.

For the people who are chasing the Agent in the alleys they will be wearing hoodies and genes/track suit bottoms as they technically have an importance in the film and so we will not need to see their faces hence why having a hoodie on with the hood up will be showing that they are the hench man of the villain.

    Rocky V 1990 Opening Scene 2

In the opening 2 minutes of Rocky 5 we hear a high pitch music at the start before the fight.
This is because the two fighters are being represented to the audience and we instantly see which one is Rocky and so the audience already side with him and want him to win.
As the two players meet and stand upt o each other we hear Rockys opponent say " I must break you". Then straight after we see the opponent beating Rocky up quite a lot and so this gives me and the audience an idea that Rocky could be hurt quite badly and so it makes us want him to win.
as the opponent carrys on beating him up the music remains quite to low but as the fight turns around and Rocky becomes on top the music increases in tempo and sound to show celebration that he will win the fight.
As Rocky is annonced as the winner of the fight the music intensifies once again and celebrations erupt around the stadium.
There is lots of editing throughout the 2 minutes as every time there is a punch hit on someone we can hear the sound effetcs of this punch but in real life beacuase of the sound of the crowd you would not be able to hear the punches taking place.
The target audience for Rocky 5 is male as it is a fighting film and these are the stereotypes of males.
The film is is aimed at 15+.

    Rocky II - Opening Shot

In the opening 2 minutes of Rocky 2 we instantly hear sirens and a quick tempo music. we then see an ambulance driving a long the street.
This shows that there must be an emergency becuase of the ambulance and that this is the reason for the fast pace music in the background.
We see the ambulance dogeing cars along the way and cutting through red lights. This shows the emergency of the situation.
As the ambualnce arrives at the scene we see a large group of people standing around a certain area and so shows that an injury must of taken place.
As there is a  large group of people, it gives us an idea that there could have been a fight taking place.
the target audience for this rocky film is 15 year olds and upwards.
It is mainly a male audience as it is all about fighting which is a steroetype for a male audience.
It is not reallly a female audience as there is not really an romantic scenes.

Pirates of the Caribbean (Curse of the Black Pearl) - Opening Scene

In the opening 2 minutes of the pirates of the caribbean we hear mysterious music in the background. the audience then see a big boat coming to wards the camera. with this combined in with the myterios music, we get an idea that this could be the enemys boat.
As the boat becomes nearer we start to hear a young girl singing. we see an over the shoulder shot of her and then a man reaches out his hand and grabs on the shoulder. the first intentions of this scene is that maybe she has been kidnapped.
The man tells off the girl for singing as he says that singing can be the "curse of the pirates that sail these water". This makes her stop singing as she is worried about the pirates.
The clothes that the characters are wearing are very smart. This is because it is the English and they want to show pride for their country.
As the man tells the girl off we see a low camera angle shot on him to show that he is in control of the situation and so the girl should listen to what he says.
The target audience for this film is teenagers and upwards to roughly 60s. It is mainly a male audience as there is many fighting scenes and it is an adventure. It can also be a female audience as there is romantic scenes throughout the film.

Settings for our Film Ed, Aaron and Me

    The settings for our film:

    Beginning: 0- 40 seconds:

In the opening few seconds of our film, the audience get to see the real discrete location for the high profile deal taking place.

The reason for this discrete location is because the deal is going to have a lot of money taking place and so having it in a easy visible place could cause problems for the dealers.

    Middle: 41 sec- 1min 20sec:

As the deal has taken place but has gone horribly wrong, the runner decides to head towards more people hoping to blend in and hide from the chasers.

The settings of these scenes keep changing as they are going at a fast pace through the town.

After a few scenes of chasing down alley ways and in between buildings, the runner does not make it and is caught by one of the chasers.

    End: 1min 21sec:

As one of the chasers finds the runner he holds a gun to his head. they are still in a discrete location and so the runner can’t do anything it except hand the package back over.
as they have a stand-off the scene goes black and then the audience hear the sound of a bullet. This means that one of them has died in this location

    Prelimery task film

Connor, Cory and I all decided to make a short clip of a film based on money. Our choice of setting was on the stage in the main hall to make out that it was a unique location which is discrete to hand over a high amount of cash.
The situation in our clip was to have the main character walk in with a bag of cash to handover with in return a very speacial item.
The relationship between our characters was good as they respected each other in clip and greated each other well. the dialogue between the two are that when Ryan enters the scene he tells Connor "You all right" to which he replies "yeah, im perfect". This shows that they both know each other well and that they are good friends (potentially).
We then here Connor ask "Have u got the dough" to which Ryan replies "Yeah, ive got too much of it". this gives us a hint of what the film is based on and gives the audience a good amount of detail to how much money Ryan has in the rucksack.

The shots that we included in our film was close ups of the two main characters to show tension, a two shot of both characters facing each other to show that these are the main characters and these two are based on the whole film and a tracking shot to show the characters movement.
I believe that our shots were effective as they showed the tension between the two characters and presented clearly what was happening in the clip. I also believe the were effective as they showed the audience in detail what was happening between the characters.
I believe that our cuts were clear as the whole clip moved smoothly as there was no stoppages in between the different camera shots.

There were some problems with our editing and filming as we could not cut out some bits as we werent used to adobe premiere. this meant that there are some minor problems with the clip but is mostly unnoticable.
One of these problems was that when walking across the stage you see me walk, stop and then carry on walking again showing that the camera had moved positions.
Another problem was that the first scene was a high angle shot and then straight after moved on to a low angle/tracking shot which shows that i went from being weak to being dominent.
